Silent Siege This Week Monday-Wednesday, August 15-17

BRIEF HISTORY OF ABORTION IN PORTLAND AND SIGNIFICANCE OF PIONEER SQUARE
A friend of ours wrote this to give more information on WHY the silent siege is happening in Pioneer Square
For more info on the siege itself please follow the link to www.bound4lifekc.com The team coming is led by another friend of ours who we love and trust. His heart is for this city but also for our nation and the justice God desires to bring to our land. If you can not make it to the siege, please keep all in prayer.

In the years preceding Roe V. Wade, many think that abortion was illegal and largely unavailable. On the contrary, illegal abortions have been a part of the history of Portland since 1890. Portland was know as the Abortion Capitol of the Northwest. The links included will amaze you and make you weep. Here are two links that will summarize the story of Ruth Barnett, an abortionist in Portland pre the Roe Vs. Wade case, in about the 1918-1950's. She claimed to have performed 40,000 abortions alone. http://lifeadvocate.org/arc/barnett.htm http://lifeadvocate.org/arc/barnett2.htm

WHY, you ask, is Pioneer Courthouse Square so significant?
The Square is the site where the early abortionist lived in the 1910's-1940's. Directly East of the Square is Portland's original Pioneer Courthouse (the Porch) and directly West of the Square is the Broadway Building (the altar). The Square is called Portland's Living Room. The entire 11th floor was the site of the abortion clinics from the 1910's to 1950's. We will literally stand between the original porch and altar. I believe that the Lord wants us to go after the "old false foundations." Several other intercessors confirmed this site. Remember the dream I reported in an earlier post of the 16 year old boy. In March of 2005, this intercessor had some youth who visited from the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, which at that time was really pressing in for LIFE. They came back and wanted to stand for Life on MLK Day. They sensed the Lord was saying saying the place was Pioneer Courthouse Square. We had 30-40 people show up and stand with us. The intercessor asked the Lord, why the square? After doing some research, this is what she discovered.

The History of the Square is that it was the location of the Portland Hotel from 1890-1951. Three famous women abortionist, feminist and friends of Margaret Sanger live in adjacent suites to one another in the hotel and ran abortion clinics across the street on the entire 11th floor of the Broadway Building (now Nordstroms). Several male abortionists had clinics as well. The premier clinic was the Stewart Clinic. These clinics were well known in the community and ran freely without any government or police interference until 1951.

The Original Federal Pioneer Courthouse face the East side of the Square. The Broadway Building is directly West. Literally the youth who were visiting felt led by the Holy Spirit to stand between the "Porch"/seat of government and the "Altar"/where the babies were killed, to cry out for mercy.

Joel 2:15-18 "Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth out of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people."

The land was an originally land granted in 1849 to a man in this area, name Elijah Hill who was a shoemaker. He purchased the land for $24 and a pair of tall boots. Like Lou Engle's article about President Bush and the cowboy boots, we have a voice in that place.

I am reminded of Psalm 24:
the Jacob generation who will stand with the spirit of Elijah and John the Baptist--"Who may ascend to the hill of the LORD, and who may stand in the Holy Place, only he who has clean hands and a pure heart and has not lifted up his soul to an idol or sworn deceitfully."
These will be the ones who invite the King of Glory to come into our cities.
Will you be one of them?
