New Scriptures for this week's Meditations

Romans 8:5-9

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace,
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be,
8 So then those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not His.

A Comment from Roy via email: I got this picture with the word "set" ("have their minds set on what that nature desires" and "have their minds set on what the Spirit desires) of a radar that scans and then locks onto a target - either what the sinful nature desires or what the Spirit desires. So it is not just a passing encounter - it is to lock onto and align in harmony with the flow of that desire. It seems to be a choice we make. And our minds are always roaming until they lock onto one or the other. It is like life results from what we set our minds on - the battle is there. And so each day I want to consciously say "yes" to the Spirit and by His grace and power choose to set my mind on what He desires through the day and by faith believe he will empower me to do that. Our minds in that respect determine the course of our lives.

Pat's revelation:
"live according to"

when meditating on this phrase I saw a picture of a boy, nodding
to the spirit in a respectful way, agreeing with, and obeying in a way I guess, to the spirit but not because of manipulative fear, but out of a knowledge of who God is and his goodness more like a good father instructing his son in the
ways of righteousness. Living according to the spirit, the goodness of God the person and
virtue of his character, knowing and trusting that He is good and His plans are for our prosperity
and not for our distruction
(Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.),knowing that He is leading us into a life of abundant life and
also giving us a purpose, destiny, more of a welcoming the instruction of the Spirit and the
guidance and understanding the fear of the Lord and that the fear of the Lord leads to life,is a well of life (Pr 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.)

This would also be true of the flesh if submited to,it would lead you on a path but the flesh is perverted and manipulative and
distractive and corrupt. If you submit yourself to the flesh it would be a master to you in a way,
and it would lead to death and destruction.

But by the blood of Jesus He made a way to abide in Him and now we can live according to the spirit
and not be bound by this body of death
